Le duo composé de Paul Deslauriers et Annika Chambers a foulé le tarmac enneigé du Québec pour venir nous présenter leur tout premier album en tandem ‘’Good Trouble’’. À travers leur tournée Québecoise, ils se sont arrêtés le 16 mars à la salle d’Youville du Palais Montcalm pour un concert intimiste à guichet fermé ! Nous y étions….

Bête de scène, Paul Deslauriers. est l’un de nos meilleurs guitaristes Blues de chez nous. À travers les années, il a côtoyé et accompagné sur scène plusieurs artistes et a eu plusieurs bands.

Depuis plus d’une décennie, il est couronné à maintes reprises auMaple Blues Awards et autres distinctions comme guitariste acoustique, électrique et artiste Blues de l’année. Et depuis quelques saisons, il forme un duo avec La Belle et talentueuse Annika Chambers.

Originaire du Texas, avec son joli minois, son sourire craquant et ses yeux pétillants Annika nous livre une performance spectaculaire. Du Gospel depuis son enfance à son Blues d’aujourd’hui, c’est pas pour rien qu’avec cette voix riche et puissante qu’on lui a décernée au Blues Music Awards en 2019 une statuette pour l’artiste féminine Blues de l’année. Et par la suite, elle fut récipiendaire de nombreuses nominations et prix en l’honneur de sa voix, sa prestance, ses albums et son talent. Ils se sont croisé du regard en 2018 lors du prestigieux International Blues Challenge à Memphis ….et se sont revus l’année suivante pour ne plus jamais se quitter. Ensemble, ils remplissent leur journée de bonheur, d’amour ainsi que de musique. Sur scène, leurs échanges de regards coquins traduisent bien leur mutuelle affection.

Durant ce spectacle, nous avons entendu de magnifiques compositions tel que You’ve got to believe, Stand Up, et une superbe pièce qui s’intitule Heavy Load… où la symbiose des voix est sublime. Incluant quelques reprises très bien orchestrées. À leur couleur, ils nous chantent Isn’t It a Pity de George Harrison, Mississippi Queen de Mountain. Leurs voix s’amalgament à merveille dans I need to love so bad de Little Willie John.

J’ai toujours adoré sa voix chaude, caressante qui nous livre de belle façon toutes ces merveilleuses pièces en complicité avec sa belle. Un Paul Deslauriers dans toute sa splendeur… Nous étions ravis de le retrouver. On s’est ennuyé de toi, tu sais … En performance avec deux super musiciens, à la batterie, avec brio Sly Coulombe et l’incontournable bassiste Alec McElcheran.

Rien de plus trippant pour un artiste que de faire chanter sa foule. Annika nous fait répéter quelques fois ce refrain de Joe South et nous chantons de tout coeur ‘’ Walk a mile in my shows…. Walk a mile in my shows’’ c’est trop beau, on continue… Elle s’est bien gardé de filmer tout cela sur son appareil cellulaire en souvenir. Et comme rappel on a eu droit à un petit medley de BB King et CCR.

Surveillez les programmations des festivals de Blues de l’été qui s’en vient. Ils y seront, entre autre à la troisième édition d’ Au Son du Moulin Blues & Gin de Bécancour du 21 au 23 juillet prochain. Nous avons hâte de vous revoir cet été. Mais, armez-vous de ‘’stuff’ à mouche, car Annika t’es pas sortie du bois !!! (Juste ceux qui ont assisté au show, comprendront)

The duo composed of Paul Deslauriers and Annika Chambers trod the snowy tarmac of Quebec to come and present their very first album in tandem “Good Trouble”.

Through their Quebec tour, they stopped on march 16^th at the salle D’Youville of the Palais Montcalm for a sold-out intimate concert. We were there!

Great performer, Paul is one of our best blues guitarists. Over the years, he has played with and accompanied many artists on stage and had several bands. For over a decade, he has won numerous Maple Blues Awards and other honors as an acoustic guitarist, electric guitarist and blues artist of the year. And for the past few seasons, he has formed a duo with the beautiful and talented Annika Chambers.

Native of Texas, with her pretty face, her charming smile and her sparkling eyes, Annika delivers a spectacular performance. From gospel music since her childhood to her blues today, it is not for nothing that this rich and powerful voice that she was awarded at the blues music award in 2019 a statuette for the female blues artist of the year. And thereafter, she was the recipient of numerous nominations and awards in honor of her voice, her presence, her albums and her talent… They crossed paths in 2018 at the prestigious International Blues Challenge in Memphis ….and met again the following year to never leave each other. Together, they fill their day with happiness, love and music. On stage, their exchange of mischievous glances translates well their mutual affection.

During this show, we heard beautiful compositions such as You’ve got to believe, Stand Up, and a superb piece called Heavy Load... where the symbiosis of the voices is sublime. Including some very well orchestrated covers. At their color, they sing Isn’t It a Pity by George Harrison, Mississippi Queen by Mountain. Their voices blend wonderfully in I need to love so bad by Little Willie John.

I have always loved his warm, caressing voice, which delivers all these wonderful pieces in complicity with his beauty. A Paul Deslauriers in all his splendor … We were delighted to find him. We missed you, you know… In performance with two great musicians… On drums, with brio Sly Coulombe and the inevitable bassist Alec McElcheran. Nothing is more exciting for an artist to make his crowd sing. Annika makes us repeat a few times this chorus of Joe South and we sing with all our hearts  » Walk a mile in my shows…. Walk a mile in my shows » it is too beautiful, we continue… She kept well to film all that on her cellular device in memory. And as a reminder we had the right to a small medley of BB King and CCR.

Keep an eye on the Blues festivals for the upcoming summer. They will be at the third edition of Au Son du Moulin Blues & Gin in Bécancour from July 21st to 23rd. We look forward to seeing you this summer. But arm yourself with mosquito repellent, because Annika is not out of the woods! (Only those who attended the show will understand)
