À la première écoute de ce cinquième opus, j’en suit séduite. Shine c’est brillamment composé de son et de variante funky, bluesé juste à point…
La section cuivre de ce band vient agrémenter joyeusement la cadence. Les arrangements musicaux sont orchestrés d’une belle façon, avec une alternance efficace, tantôt plus smooth ou très punchée ! Avec même un peu de Rap à la Eminem sur la 6 em trame Dirty. La voix éraillée de Matt Isbell et de sa cigar box guitar donne une tonalité différente à travers les solos de trombone et trompette qui sont bien présents ainsi que ceux des claviers, ce qui donne une dimension spéciale à leur musique. Une belle harmonisation musicale, un band en symbiose, des chansons qui nous parlent… et surtout leur joie de vivre qui transparaît à travers ce nouveau cd.
Vous avez le principal chanteur Matt Isbell aux guitares et harmonica, Taylor Orr l’autre guitariste, Kevin Houston au saxophone, Suavo Jones au trombone et trompette, Matt Karner à la basse, Andrew McNeill derrière la batterie et les percussions ainsi que Cedric Taylor aux claviers. Tous participent vocalement à cet album. Ils ont aussi sur la pièce titre de cet album Shine, la participation spéciale de Paul Deslauriers et d’Annika Chambers. Et de Ilana Katz Katz au violon sur la chanson Hey There Lucinda.
Ils en sont à leur 10em année d’existence et sans compter les honneurs reçus tel que la 2 em place à l’International Blues Challenge à Memphis, plusieurs nominations et prix aux Tennessee Music Awards, Maple Blues Awards, Blues Blast Music Awards, Indie Music Awards, Independent Music Awards… des couvertures de magazines comme le Blues Blast magazine, West Texas Blues, etc… des premières parties de Steve Miller Band, Keb Mo, Johnny Lang, Robert Randolph, John Mayall, Bobby Rush et la liste est longue
Shine un album brillamment composé, c’est un plaisir à écouter. Ils seront en visite chez nous à Québec le 22 avril au Pub Limoilou. Et au Festival de Jazz et Blues du Sagnenay du 21 au 25 avril prochain. Courez les voir, ça vaut le détour, car sur scène l’ambiance est survoltée. At the first listen to this fifth opus, I am seduced. Shine is brilliantly composed of sound and funky variant, just bluesy… The copper section of this band cheerfully enhances the pace. The musical arrangements are orchestrated in a beautiful way, with an effective alternation, sometimes smoother or very punchy! With even a bit of Eminem-style Rap on the 6th Dirty frame. The hoarse voice of Matt Isbell and his cigar box guitar gives a different tone through the trombone and trumpet solos which are very present as well as those of the keyboards, which gives a special dimension to their music. A beautiful musical harmonization, a band in symbiosis, songs that speak to us… and above all their joie de vivre that shows through this new cd…
